Sport & Social Industry Research
Supporting Research:
Through discussion with the owners of many sport and social businesses throughout the nation, most agreed that the concept of a Sport and Social Industry Trade Organizatiuon should at least be researched. A survey was created in July of 2010 and sent to 70 sport and social clubs nationwide. Of these 70 businesses, 35 responded by filling out the entire survey an expressing interest in being part of a trade association. A report was then created to aggregate and summarize the survey results so that each contributor could benefit from volunteering their time and resources. The 50% response rate was outstanding in comparison to those in other industries (average of ~30%) and represented the support for this initiative.
Key insights from the Research:
- Over 1 million people participate in sport and social activities nationwide
- The industry as a whole generates over $50MM in revenue each year
- All surveyed clubs expressed interest in a trade association moving forward
- From a profitability standpoint, sport leagues and sponsorship investments are most successful, with social events currently operating at a loss industry-wide
